Lamar City Park

Beautifully landscaped and fully functional,  the Lamar City Park is the pride of Lamar. Located on the grounds of the City Park is the Lamar Aquatic Park, an RV park and 8 baseball/softball fields. There is also an enclosed shelter, fish pond, 6 covered pavilions, a one mile walking trail with fitness stations every quarter mile, a children's playground, 2 lighted basketball courts, a sand volley ball pit, a wooden covered bridge, a Burlington Northern Caboose and a lighted tennis court. City Park has overnight RV parking with a 7 night limit, the first two at no charge, and subsequent nights, up to a total of  7 at only $10.00 a night. The  RV park is on the western edge of the City Park.

At City Park we reserve only 2 shelters, shelters 1 and 3. A refundable cleanup deposit may be required. The other covered shelters require no reservation, and are on a first come, first served basis.                                                                                                      To reserve  Shelter 1 (Enclosed Shelter - pictured here)

The calendar is updated periodically, but not daily, so a date TAKEN on this site is definitely taken, but an OPEN date on this site may not be open. To make sure, confirm by calling  417-682-5422 or e-mail parkscaretaker@keinet.net. Once  the caretaker gets your request he can confirm if the date is open and put your name on the calendar. Be sure to leave contact information and the date you want, and he will get back to you.

Wheeler Park                        

 Wheeler Park is the site of a kid's fishing pond, playground, picnic areas, and lovely nature.

The land for Wheeler Park  was donated by the developer of the Wheeler housing subdivision, on what used to be the Wheeler Farm. Quaint wooden wagon wheels mark the entrance to the subdivision, of which the park is the centerpiece.

Playground equipment has been installed and picnic tables placed on the grounds. Charcoal grills are available for cooking. Two wooden bridges have been completed with an iron crescent bridge  spanning the water to the island in the pond. The  shelter has a family bathroom.  The shelter can be reserved in advance for functions by addressing the Park Board at their regularly scheduled meeting, the first Monday of every month at 5 PM at city hall Council Chambers. If no reservation exists, then it used on a first come first served basis. 

Wheeler Park is also the site of the Memorial Avenue of Trees.

Memorial Avenue of Trees

The Memorial Avenue is a response of the Park Board to those people who have wished to donate a tree to the park system in memory of a loved one, or to commemorate an event. All the trees in this avenue are the lovely Red Sunset Maple. A permanent plaque has been established on the west end of the in the avenue which borders the north edge of the park. The monument honors those for whom trees are planted.
