Co-Ed Softball Rules

ASA  Softball Rules will apply, with the exception of the following:                    Revised  6-1-04

 1.      This is an adult players league. Minimum age for players is 16 years old by July 1 of current year.

2.      Team rosters are due to Parks & Rec. office to register a team by deadline given. Teams will list a maximum of 18 players. Additions of new players with their waivers may be added or changed up to the day before the first game. After that point there will be no additions or changes to the team roster.  The League Fee is due by the manager’s meeting.

3.     Teams field and bat ten players. If you can only field 9 (and bat 9) minimum of 4 female players must be in field positions at all times. Females will hit an11” softball. Males will hit a 12” softball.

4.      Batting Order will alternate male/female. Either male or female may lead off the batting order. The team batting order must be submitted to the umpire and score keeper before the start of each game. Only same gender substitutions may be made, unless the team is playing more females than males.

5.      Each team may use extra hitters. However, there must be both a male and a female extra hitter, and they follow the regular batting order. They must be on the game roster, listed as either regular players or substitutes.

6.      When batting, there will be an automatic out between two men batting in a row.

7.      If a male batter is walked, the following female batter is walked. OPTION: She may CHOOSE to bat. If so the male batter only takes one base

8.     Home Run (Over the fence) Rule: Men–first one for that batter in the GAME counts as a strike; (if it’s a third strike it’s still a strike, therefore an out.)  Second in game and any after, automatic out. For a female – no penalty

9.     Time Limit will be 1 hour 15 minutes, or 7 innings. Will not start a new inning with less than 8 minutes on the clock.

10.  Mercy Run Rule: 15 after 3, 10 after 5.

11.  There is to be no ‘head-first’ sliding at any base. This will result in an automatic out.

12.  Steel cleats are not allowed.

13.  Starting Count on the batters will be 1-1. Batters will begin their turn at bat with 1 strike and 1 ball automatically. The purpose of this is to speed up play and allow for more innings to be played within the time limit.

14.  A foul ball hit as a third strike will be called “no strike” as a courtesy.  A fourth is an out.

15.  Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the City Park at any time. Anyone found in possession on City property will be asked to leave. For a second violation, the team the offender is on will be kicked out of the league altogether.

16.  Tobacco of any form is not allowed on the playing field or in the dugout.

17.  Umpires will be provided for each game. The home team will keep the official scorebook. The visiting team will keep the scoreboard. The second team listed in the pairing is the home team.

18.  There is to be no arguing with the official over calls. There is no exception to this rule. Any player, coach or observer whose temper gets out of control over a judgment call, or who by vulgarity, intimidation or yelling confronts an official, will be warned once. If the infraction is repeated, the offending person can be dismissed from the game, asked to leave the park, and/or not be allowed to continue playing the remainder of the season, depending on the severity of the infraction.

19.  Protests must be made in writing and delivered to the Lamar Parks & Recreation Director within 3 days of the game. A team cannot protest a game they have won.              Director, Lamar Parks & Recreation,1104 Broadway, Lamar, Missouri 64759

NOTE: The Lamar Parks & Recreation Director has the option to modify these rules at any time during the season, as required to facilitate orderly play and/or safety. All managers will be notified of revisions.
