Recreational Use and Safety Rules

PLEASE READ BEFORE FISHING or BOATING

1. All permanent residents of Barton County who are age 65 or older are granted FREE fishing privileges.

2. All persons sixteen (16) years of age or older must obtain a permit before fishing. Children under twelve (12) years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

3. A boat permit is required for all boats operating on Lamar City Lake.

a. The minimum age for a boat operator is sixteen (16) years of age.

b. All boats must be launched at the specifically designated ramp for that purpose.

c. Owner assumes all liability to ensure boat is safe and water-worthy.

d. Life preservers must be on board for each occupant.

e. Children under twelve (12) must WEAR an approved life preserver.

f. The use of rafts, self constructed or  pool floatation types, is prohibited.

g. Canoes, paddle boats, rubber boats and pontoon boats  are allowed.

h. Maximum boating speed is 10mph, and boats should leave no whitecap wake.

i. Speeding, racing, and reckless boat handling are prohibited.

4. The number of persons allowed per boat is as follows

5. Permit charges are as follows and are available at the Lamar City Lake office and at City Hall if no one is at the Lake office. Permits are NOT transferable.

6. A season permit is  valid for only one individual. Every user over age 16 is required to have his/her own permit, with exception of rule #1 above.

7. Picnic facilities are available on a first come-first served basis.

8.  We observe the guidelines of the Missouri Conservation Commission .

9. Fishing Limits are as follows:

 Bass - Daily Limit : 6

a. Bass 10 inches and under may be taken

b. Bass 15 inches and over may be taken.

c. Bass 1-1/4 inches to 14-3/4 inches MAY NOT be taken, and must be returned to the lake unharmed

Channel Cat – Daily Limit: 10 All channel cat under 15 inches must be returned.

Crappie – Daily Limit: 15. All crappie under 10 inches must be returned unharmed.

Bluegill – Daily Limit: 25 Hybrid bluegill under 5 inches must be retuned unharmed.

Grass Carp – (White Amur) MAY NOT be taken.

10. Driving on / fishing from the lake dam is prohibited, as fishing within 100 feet of the water intake aerators is dangerous and prohibited.

11. Cleaning fish on the lake premises is prohibited. we do not have sanitary facilities to do this.

12. Littering of any kind is prohibited.

13. Swimming, water skiing, and ice skating are prohibited. Wading for the purpose of fishing is allowed, using waders/ equipment made for the purpose.

14. Use of firearms, pellet guns, bow and arrows, sling shot or any other lethal weapon is prohibited.

15. Setting and/or using trot lines, throw lines, limb lines or jug lines is prohibited.

16. Placing brush or any other object in the lake to create "crappie beds" or "fishing beds" is prohibited.

Lamar City Lake is primarily the City’s Water Supply facility. Its use for fishing and recreation is strictly secondary. Public health and safety considerations require the adoption and enforcement of these rules to prevent pollution to the lake, and to prevent injury to those who use this facility for recreation purposes. Persons violating these rules will be subject to prosecution under Lamar City Ordinance 813, which provides for a fine of up to $100.00, or a jail sentence of up to sixty (60) days, or both.

Lamar City Lake IS policed for length limits. Please comply with rules THIS MEANS YOU.

The City of Lamar has spent a great deal to provide this facility and fish stocking programs. Your fees pay only a tiny fraction of the cost of running the lake The lake provides considerable pleasure for many people. To keep it nice, we insist upon compliance with the rules. PLEASE help to keep it clean and safe.
